An Evening at the Salon

I'm lucky to live in a city that not only has an active group of bloggers, but also gets together frequently to share tips, learn together and just have fun!  We try to plan events monthly, taking turns at organizing them for the group. This month was my turn, so I planned an evening at the salon for the group.

I get my hair done by the fabulous Debbie at The Glam Room, who together with her amazing co-workers, offered to host the Kansas City bloggers last Thursday night in their beautiful salon. Seriously, the mixed elements in this space make it truly unique. From the hardwood floors, to the crystal lights and brick walls - it was a great location to have a party. They provided snacks, drinks and adorable personalized cookies by Just Swoon. They really treated us good. :)

BonLook's Kansas City ambassador, Erika was also at the party armed with all the adorable frames that have so many loving this brand. This pop up shop was a hit and so fun trying on all the different styles.

What's a blog party without a little blog learning, too? I was so lucky to meet Sarah last Fall, who is a very talented graphic artist. She has been helping me come up with a new blog look - which it so desperately needs.  As we've been working together - she's had so many helpful tips, that I begged her to come talk to the group and just introduce herself to them - as we're always looking for people we can trust to help on our blogs. She was a huge hit. She's re-branding herself right now, so will have more on her later! {and stay tuned for my new blog look to come soon}

Here are few photos from the night and what I wore:

 {Cookies by Just Swoon, Erin & I matching...again, Sandy & I and a close up of my glitter pumps}

Outfit details: Polka Dot Dress - J.Crew (similar); Camo Jacket - Old Navy (similar); Necklace - Anthropologie; Glitter Heels - Madewell; Pyramid Bracelet - UO; Flower Bracelet - Forever21; Watch - Michael Kors

Dressing up an everyday dress

I had been really itching to wear this burgundy dress that I actually bought last year before the big burgundy boom. It's super comfortable, and a little everyday looking, which is fine, but I was headed to an event - the red carpet night of Kansas City Fashion Week and needed to glam it up some. Keep reading to see how (or if) I was able to style this dress up (bare nails and all).

Shoe of the Day: Printed Sandals

Printed Sandals: Mum by Seychelles

Printed dresses and skirts, printed pants, printed blouses and button downs, printed purses and printed belts...  of course it makes sense to have printed heels, too.

Prints make me happy, and so do shoes. These shoes make me very happy (comes in several prints/patterns).

So do Fridays. Happy Friday!!

2 Weeks

Popping in to say hi and a little update.  My lil man is already over 2 weeks - time sure flies.  And I think I'm starting to look a little less pregnant, though I have a long way to go.

{Target (Gift) Black Coat, J.Crew Vest, J.Crew Outlet Shirt, Gap Black Denim Pants, Urban Outfitter Heels}

We also took the little one on his first outing that didn't revolve around a pediatrics appointment.  We went to dinner with a bunch of friends that are all in town - and he did great.  The car ride put him to sleep and the sounds of the restaurant kept him sleeping the whole dinner.  I didn't even have to dip into my bottle of pumped milk I brought.

Stripes on Stripes

One of the first pregnant enewsletters I got from What to Expect wrote about what to wear with a growing belly.  One of the things it said was to avoid horizontal stripes. HAH.  Well I have been wearing horizontal stripes the past 30 weeks, and today, bigger than ever - I am amping it up to double stripes!

My preggo dressing advice - wear whatever the heck you feel comfortable in!  You have a baby in your belly - it's ok for that to be obvious!  Some days I look bigger, other days smaller depending on what I wear or how he's sitting in there, but as long as I like the clothes I'm wearing, I feel better!

And thank goodness for spandex and loose sweaters.  No maternity wear necessary, and I can wear again post-pregnant (and have worn pre-pregnant).

Shoe of the Day: My New Pet

A couple weeks ago I welcomed my second pair of leopard shoes into my life.  And I couldn't be happier.  Meet my new platform sandals.

I paired my leopard with a maxi skirt turned into more of a midi.  Since the waist band hits right across my growing baby bump, I pulled it up - like all the way up to sit right under my boobs. Thus showing off more of my new shoes anyways!

I love Franco Sarto heels.  They never fail to be comfortable from morning to night.  I found the best price for these Franco Sarto heels from Piperlime for $40.

The stripe maxi skirt (see worn at a normal length here or as a dress here) is from Macy's, worn with a hot pink J.Crew blouse and belted by Target.

Remember, today is the last day to email me to get involved in my First Ever Blogger Swap Event!  Please oh please join me and all the other fun bloggers that have signed up!  Read all the details of the event here.  And hint - if you are signed up/involved, you'll get an extra entry into Tuesday's very relevant and fun GIVEAWAY.

Dress for Less: Shoe of the Day

A double feature wammy for you today, readers!  Dress for Less & a Shoe of the Day!  Wowza.  You might reconize these adorable heeled sandles...

 By the ever popular and adorable brand, Seychelles, ya?  Well only one of these are the Seychelles Women's Gypsy Sandal and the pair on the left is actually significantly cheaper by Mossimo® Vivien Pleated Heeled Sandals via Target.

The Target pair comes in only Mushroom (shown) and black, and not all the fun and bright colors the Seychelles comes in (like this orange-coral color I love).  I ended up getting the Target ones, and while I've only worn them around Target and my house a bit - so far the seem very comfortable and look just like the Seychelles!

Day 5 {Sequins for Day into Night}

Maybe a bold pick for only 30 items, but I was able to wear my sequin top by day and night!  Under a cardi, it wasn't overpowering with sparkles and the jeans played it down a bit.

Sequins, turquoise bling, olive green cardi and orange shoes!  Seems like a lot going on...
And I was using my little turquoise wristlet that you recently saw in my purse.

Get Lisa's The Bachelor Profile Pic Look

We have to wait until Monday (1/10) to find out what happens next on The Bachelor.  Lisa M. from Ottawa, KS (however, lives in the Kansas City area now) made it through the first round in her pretty blue dress.  Before we get to her ABC profile pic look, and update on her premier episode footwear.

She surprised some people by wearing sparkly red heels out of the limo - of course this is a TV show, and most of the girls do a little something meeting the Bachelor for the first time, as encouraged to do so by ABC and nothing new. It was just for fun, and not a reflection of her personal footwear taste (in case you weren't sure...).  :)

Photo from ABC online episode

After first meeting Brad and heading into the house, she then changed into her normal shoes she had originally planned to where all along.  You can get a glimpse of them after she accepts her rose from Brad at the end of the night:

And they look a ton like mine, but mine are Nine West and were from Marshall's.
Lisa's are Enzo Angiolini available via Nordstroms.

Ok, now on to Lisa's ABC profile pic - her look has already had a lot of feedback and questions regarding where she got her necklace. So I thought I'd provide some options...

She is such a natural beauty!
Her necklace is from Anthropologie & yellow tank top from Forever 21 from this past summer and no longer available.  Since filming started in September...a lot of the clothing worn may not be available.

But you can still get the look yourself:

Necklaces:
Mixit via JCPenny's; Charlotte Russe; Buckle; Naomi's from Linen n' Things (seriously!)

Yellow Tanks:
Roxy; LnA via Bluefly; 7 for Mankind (on sale for $20!); Alexis Kady via Singer22

And if you missed what she wore on the first night, you can go here to see & how to get it! You can also follow me on Twitter where I tweeted live during the show (& about other random adventures and finds)!

And further more...if you want to see pretty Lisa M.'s Bachelor submission pic & how she got involved with the show - Lulu has a great post at A Candid Life!

Inspiration from the pages: Neon

I've dabbled with neon before, and to tell you the truth - I kinda love it.  Obviously in moderation, but it can be so fun to mis with duller (neutral) colors for a pop!

I got this outfit inspiration from the the pages of my magazines...

So I played with the lime/yellow neon color and wore with grays and black.  For the spring, I will pair this blouse with the army green colors as seen in the above inspiration page.

I even wore vibrant blue heels.  Just for fun.

Outfit Deets:
Neon blouse - Loft
Stripe Shirt - Banana Republic
Black Pants - H&M
Heels - Blowfish via DSW
