Favorite Wears: Leopard Dress from Day to Night

Do you know what you're wearing to all your holiday parties yet?  Me either.  But you could start by looking in your closet - repurposing something you may not have thought you could dress up for such an occasion.  Or shopping for something new - try looking for a dress you can also dress down and wear during the day.  If you read this blog, you know I'm about pieces that work multiple ways, that can be worn from work out to work, summer to winter, or, in this case, day to night.

In my case, this is an old silk-like dress from Target... one of those great finds that has made it past the closet purge year after year and something I can wear 3 out of the 4 seasons!  I've worn it to weddings, holiday parties, work, meetings and to run errands - all with a little styling help.  Today I'm sharing how I wore this dress for a casual daytime look and transformed it for a glammed up night event.

With a swipe of some bolder lipstick, the addition of some statement jewelry and metallic wedges this dress was ready for a holiday party. Normally I wouldn't wear two statement jewelry pieces (earrings + necklace), but this just worked with the dressed up factor and similar in style look between the two.

What are you wearing for the holidays?? How would you style it for day?

Fall Trends with LuLu's: Mad for Plaid!

Plaid is the epitome of fall fashion - it's screams cooler weather, cozy texture and perfect layers. It's even better when paired with other patterns and unexpected pieces -- like stripes (classic), pops of bright color and/or leather (faux).  I took this plaid jacket and stripe tee combo two ways and both could be day or night.

I used to think plaid was country, to be paired with cowboy boots and worn for apple picking or a bonfire, and would wear only for a very casual look.  It's been great playing with the print over the last few years and discovering how versatile and fun it is. I particularly love it with the pop of bright pink and paired with pleated (faux) leather - which could be way dressier paired with heels, but I kept the outfit playful for day with slip on sneakers.  And then of course pairing the mixed patterns over jeans with wedges and gold jewelry is an easy go-to!

What are ways you are styling plaid?

Favorite Wears: Tomboy Style

styling loafers with athleta workout pants for day
I felt a little like Tom Cruise in Risky Business in this outfit... the oversized white button down shirt, mainly, since I am wearing pants.  Well, sort of pants - they're Athleta work out pants, which are the most comfortable thing ever and versatile, since I also wear them to work out.  Feeling the tomboy vibe, I slipped on my new laceless oxford flats and a denim jacket to complete the look.  Adding a pop of color in my bag choice with coordinating lipstick felt like just the right amount of girlie to balance it all out.

Are you feeling the tomboy vibe this season?

P.S. If you live in the Kansas City area, Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse has a brand new location! They officially opened their doors in Corbin Park in Overland Park, KS. Make sure to check it out - as they have an awesome selection of shoes in every style.

I continue to be drawn to neutrals this fall!  But adding a pop of color to an otherwise neutral outfit helps add a point of interest.  See my two secrets to adding color to neutral outfits here and favorite neutral picks that are anything but boring here.

Favorite Wears: Mixing Prints & Textures

I wanted to keep my outfit for KCFW comfortable and sleek, after having glam'd up for it the night before.  And as luck would have it... these loafers arrived on my doorstep earlier that day. Talk about perfect timing - because what is more sleek than leopard print anything, and especially mixed with (faux) leather pops and a mixed material purse (that held everything - camera included without looking like a diaper bag).... Then throw a little camo in the mix, because why not? You know me and mixed prints...

So, I styled my outfit around my new shoes. Can you blame me?  If you live in the Kansas City (more specifically, the Leawood/Overland Park, KS) area - I have some really good news for you. Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse is opening up a brand new store in Corbin Park (135th & Metcalf) on Friday, October 10th!

For starters, the word "warehouse" is in their name - so it's pretty much a shoe-lovers dream.  Plus, I love that they offer such a variety to really have something for everyone (or in my case, a lot of somethings).  So, if you are in the area - get excited!  And get EXTRA excited, because Friday (the evening of their grand opening on the 10th) from 5pm-7pm, they're having a fun party.  So come check out the new store, new fall styles and bring a friend or two for a fun way to start your weekend.
