Favorite Beauty Products Lately: May 2014

This month's beauty favorite beauty products include a few I'm constantly re-purchasing whenever I run out, a new fav and something my son is getting a lot of use out of!

Let's start with the hair... mine is a frizz ball, especially come summer.  Frizz Ease, Extra Strength Serum is a constant in my medicine cabinet (medicine for my hair...).  I recently went to restock and noticed they revamped their bottles!

Silicone Scar Sheets are a must have for any post-stitch wound!  And perfect for kids... Liam had a little accident and had to get stitches a few months ago, we've been keeping a silicone strip on the area since the stitches dissolve and really seeing the scar start to fade!

Dark Circle Eraser, the brightener shade (slightly pink vs. the skin colors), is my go-to for under my eyes. I was actually out for awhile and really noticed how tired I looked with out it (well, I really am actually tired, but it was evident).

Super soft, yet provides powerful color for the girl that loves lipstick, but with lips that need a little TLC... Sugar Lip Treatment in Coral by Fresh!

I started using eye lid primer to keep my eyeshadow on for longer, and then I just used it along to even out and brighten up my skin, then I discovered MAC's paint pots that does all that but also has this subtle shimmer color that brightens up my eyes better than anything else.  I slather this on each morning in lieu of anything else (eye shadow, primer).

Tell me what products you've been loving this month?  I would love to discover something new, and might even end up making next month's favorite list!

Fall 2012 Makeup Trends to Try

With the new season (not to mention new hair), I hit up MAC Cosmetics in Kansas City on that Plaza last week to get a few fresh products (and advice) for Fall.  I new I wanted to jump on the burgundy lip trend, but I also wanted to learn more about other beauty trends to expect for this Fall and let me tell you, Angie at MAC filled me in on some fun things to try (and her favorite trend to try this season)!  Bonus, easy to pin, save or print photo recap at the end of this post to easily take with you while shopping!

Here are a few makeup styles and trends that made their way down runways and now you can try at home:

The Romantic Era:

This look is comprised of that trending bold lip (think berries, burgundy/oxblood/wine and deep reds, but also bright blue!) as well as a color wash of shadow on your eye lids. Eye shadow is brushed evenly on from your eyebrow down and goes below your eye, under your lower lashes.  To try: take a light gold shadow and lightly brush it under your lower lashes, using darker corresponding shades on your top lid (like browns or bronze).

Poetic in Beauty:

This trend is actually lighter on makeup, bare eyes and either lightly colored lips or stained in red.  The focus for this look is on the skin for a very smooth and velvety look. To Try: start with lotioning the skin, cover with your favorite foundation, apply a light coat of mascara and pick your favorite lip color, this might be the perfect, running-late-one-morning look!

Geometric Eyeliner:

Besides bold eye shadow applies, different styles of eyeliner are being drawn all over. "It's more about making shapes than defining the eye," Angie told me. Though we're still seeing the classic cat-eye (my personal fav).  This geometric eyeliner trend can easily be toned down for real life and played up for bold nights out.  To try: line the inner top eye lid then line the outer top eye lid, leaving the center void of liner to tip toe into this trend.

Words of Beauty from Angie:
Other beauty things to try this season, golden tones and bronzers and instead of bright pink blushes, deeper pinks along the burgundy line and bronzers along the cheek bones for a contoured look. Lip butters and balms that moisturize and add color will help achieve that velvety look. Angie, from MAC, said her favorite trend for this upcoming season is the velvety skin look. It "looks natural, but perfected - very poetic." You can achieve this perfected look with MAC's Face and Body Foundation.

My Fall Look:
{Wearing Twinks eye shadow on upper lid, Gold Mine shadow below bottom lashes, Studio Fix Fluid foundation and Heart Hangover (similar) longwear lip cream}

What Fall beauty trend will you try?
