Favorite Wears: $30 Amazon Pleated Skirt

I'm a long-time lover of pleated skirts! I have several in all different colors - and until finding THIS ONE, my go-to place was J.Crew for much more expensive versions.  Now, don't get me wrong, they serve a purpose and I still love those (I'll do a separate post soon to showcase my newest J.Crew pleated skirt), but this one is under $30, comes in tons of colors, is lined and totally comfortable.

I really could see myself owning this in every color... but I'm going to try to refrain for that (not enough closet space!). I got this brownish-copper color because it was very different then any other skirt I had and envision wearing it with black. But this particular day, I was working for a bit at a coffee shop that is literally within a tree and plant nursery and just felt I need to soften the look up a bit.

For those in Kansas City area, you must check out Cafe Equinox within the Family Tree Nursery in Shawnee, KS. They serve Thou Mayest coffee, baked goods from local bakeries and have tons of work space and collaboration tables throughout the nursery to work amongst the chlorophyll.

It was such a calming way to work, and I swear I felt lighter and more alert. I will make it habit to work out of this space whenever possible. And of course, coming home with a few new plants is never bad, right?!

Favorite Wears: Boots

Fall begins the boot weather - my favorite time of year! I love boots, and come winter, it's all I'll be wearing. One of my go-to places to shop is Zappos because you can order easily, get them fast (two day free shipping) and rest assure that their return policy and customer service has you covered.

I have boots in every style, but these Born boots are a new kind for me, and I love them. They are perfect for casual days and weekends alike.  Easy to wear with jeans and leggings now, but I can see them also paired well with a floral dress in those early spring days.  These boots are incredibly comfortable, and love that you don't have to choose between comfort and style.

What kind of boots are you wearing this season?

Boots were provided to me, but selection and opinion is all my own.

Favorite Wears: Leopard Sweater

For me, leopard has acted as a staple pattern for every season over the last decade, and come fall and winter, leopard sweaters are a must.  They are my go to for elevating any ol' basic jeans and sweater look, but they can also be very fun mixed with bright colors and dressed up. To me, leopard is part of the neutral family, but a bit more fun. :)

While leopard is a long-time safety net, I set out this season with a goal of updating my black bootie situation. The style has gone towards a more pointed (or at least almond) toe and travels up the ankle a bit higher.  But thankfully, the sturdy and comfortable black heel is here to stay.  I found this pair that are not only up-to-date and sleek, but also comfy!

What are your old fall/winter staples and new updates in your wardrobe?

Favorite Wears: Velvet Softness

The trend of the winter: velvet everything. Next up, softness anything. Today's outfit contains both, plus color mixing that I kind of threw together and ended up loving the result.  This velvet skirt can be dressed up or down, is super comfortable and comes in two colors if light pink isn't your thing - oh, and it's under $25! I've been wearing it non-stop for this holiday season.

On the softness side, Chenille is all the rage right now. You have to be a bit careful on snagging it, but if you do (and I have a lot), you can easily pull the thread back through the other side.  The softness makes it all worth it. Mine is no longer available, but I've linked a few similar ones below!

And two last things you need in your life (besides velvet & softness): these boots and a yellow coat.  I literally wear these boats several times a week - they go with everything and are so comfortable. I love the way they look.  And I got this yellow coat last year from my favorite place to buy coats, and love the bright yellow options currently on sale (linked below).

Fall Apple Picking in Weston, KS

It's become a tradition to go apple picking every fall (and now Liam is asking if we can go pick all the fruits, so I'm thinking we'll have a lot more "picking" in our future, pending the season) with our good friends.  We also headed back to Weston Red Farm Barn this year to apple pick and see the animals. It might be favorite place this season.

It's crazy to see how much this crew has changed in just one year (see last years adventure here!).  This year, it was the perfect morning to be outside. Much cooler out because of the over night rain, so we wore our boots so we wouldn't have to worry about the muddy grounds.  Because of the rain the night before, I think a lot of people didn't come - so it wasn't crowded at all, which was even more awesome.

Some of our favorite pieces in this post:

See some of our pics from the morning below!

I love looking back on the years of apple picking!  Fall is seriously just glorious.

Favorite Wears: Summer Meets Fall

I have lived in Kansas City for a long time, and I had never been to Miami Ice until a few weeks ago! Not only is it close to my house, and totally cute, but shaved ice is the perfect jump into fall. I'm all about fall wears, but the weather can be a tad too warm still, so I'm cooling myself down with watermelon shaved ice. ;) And it tastes amazing.
I mean, whatever you have to do... right?  I love this green shirt dress with tie cuff details. This is THE color for the fall season, and cuff/sleeve detail is a fast trend.  So, I'm jumping in head first with both in this one look. Fall dresses are the perfect place to start for cooler weather wears.
