Tips for the Best Summer Workout Wear

Even though Winter has been lingering on in a lot of the US for far too long, I'm still thinking ahead about having the right athletic gear to keep my workout streak going into those hotter months.  This month, I had a goal to workout 20 times (and I'm well on my way - you can see my progress on Instagram Stories & highlights).

I love a good new workout outfit to keep me motivated, and great looking gear to get me excited about wearing them!  For me, the fit and feel of workout clothes are also very important - nothing distracts me more from a good workout that tugging down a shirt, or pulling up my pants. And clothes that itch or poke don't get a repeat wear.

So, I've rounded up some tips and favorite pieces that I've found to work great for me - specifically for warmer weather!

1. Find clothing with strategically placed mesh to keep your skin exposed to air for easier cooling down.  For my leggings, I love mesh behind my knees personally. And look for mesh on the back of or down the front of your sports bras to help keep cool under your shirt.  Some of my favorite mesh pieces for summer:

2. Breezy shirts with open backs and/or an open slit to cool off your back.  Other options are a longer, light and swing styled tops that are easy to cool off in. A crop styled sports bra  that is longer down the torso or crop top lets your midsection breath a bit:

3. Light colors and thinner, quick dry fabrics are key.  This is especially important if you are working out outdoors - and don't forget to wear sunscreen and UPF fabrics (like this tank) that help keep you safe from the sun.

4. Don't forget about what kind of underwear you wear! Quick dry, breathable and oder resistant will keep you even fresher, longer.  The brand I'm going to try out this summer (after some research!) is this one - they even have mens styles and comes in lots of cuts!

5. Get shoes that are light weight and made with breathable fabrics.  I have loved love Adidas Ultra Boost for awhile, and recently loving Nike LunarEpic sneaks - both come in loads of color options:
