Go Blog Social: Day 2 recap

Yesterday I posted about last week's day one of Go Blog Social, the first Kansas City blog conference for bloggers by bloggers and brands. I was also able to squeeze in a bit of day two, which of course started out with a little fashion shoot in the middle of the street in Downtown KC with several other bloggers (naturally and despite all the strange stares from onlookers).

From yesterday's flowy, bump-concealing dress to today's stretchy bump-showing skirt, here's a look at what I wore to the conference and the highlight from the portion I attended.

{Outfit Details: Necklace (but purchased 2nd hand),  Sunglasses - Hello Cheeseburger (GBS sponsor), Shirt, Skirt - old from Old Navy (similar), Watch, Shoes - old from Urban Outfitters, Camera Bag - Theit, Lips}

And the highlight of day two of Go Blog Social for me was meeting Meg Biram in person!  We've worked together professionally via email and such and it's always fun to actually meet in person. She gave an inspiring talk about personal branding and strategy - which seemed to be a theme throughout the conference, but was great to hear her perspective and path.

What a great first year event right here in KC!

Go Blog Social Conference: Day One Recap

I had the pleasure of attending and the honor of speaking at the first Go Blog Social in Kansas City last weekend - a conference for bloggers by bloggers.  It's fun to have something like this local and in the midwest.  There are so many great communities and stories here in the midwest, and while those larger conference in NYC, Sat Lake, various other bigger cities are so great, a midwest conference is key for supporting key influencers that live in all those in between places.  I really hope to see Go Blog Social back next year and to continue to grow, which I think it has a lot of potential to do so.

In the panel I spoke on, Jessica of How Sweet Eats and I talked about the relationship between bloggers and brands.  I opened up the session by grounding everyone in the current influencer marketing situation.  I've kind of wrote about some of this here, but to reiterate - here's a little recap.  Consumer's rate blogs third most influential among all digital tactics right behind retail and brand sites when considering a purchase.  Also high up is how how trustworthy they deem blogs. This is an awesome pat on the back to those hard working bloggers, right?  So people actually come to our little sites for real life and honest opinions on things, places to go, advice to give, etc.

What is interesting is that brand's spending among influence marketing is way behind the curve.  On average, of all brand's digital budgets, only 10% goes to Social Media.  Within that already slim slice, only 6-10% of the budget is spent in influence marketing.  Compared to how highly consumers regard blogs and influencers - there is a lot of room for brands to leverage this growing field. You can download the full report that touches on this here.

After everyone understood the current landscape of influencer marketing, Jessica and I walked through a few important points on how bloggers should start to think about brand work.  High level, they are:

1. Keep brand work authentic
2. What brands look for
3. Before you work with brands, things you should establish with your self first
4. Diversify sponsorships & brand integrations
5. Working with ad networks/PR Agencies/Agents

It was a lot of info for a short amount of time, but we had a great group of listeners and note takers!  I've been getting additional emails and tweets since and love that we were able to bring something new to the group.  Thanks again for having me, Go Blog Social!

Below are a few photos from the conference.

Me with co-founds Kat & Sarah and my co-panelist, Jessica.

Some of my Kansas City blogging buddies, Sandy, Erin & Lisa.

One of my favorite things about the conference was meeting some new vendors in the expo hall. Loved this triangle necklace by Shop Jami and went home with this long necklace by Hello Cheeseburger (as well as a few other things).

Two of my favorite panelists on Friday was by the Ampersand Design Studio girls, who talked about branding and strategy, but also left us with an awesome little cheat sheet (top photo), and J of J's Everyday Fashion, who shared what inspires her - and I can't wait to now pick up The War of Art to read on my upcoming beach vacay.

Did you attend Go Blog Social? What did you like best about about the first day's round up?
If not, do you think you'd attend next year?

Favorite Wears: New Fall Pieces to Wear Now

I'm dipping my toes into Fall with these new flats. I think these are a perfect Summer into Fall pick that I'm happily wearing already. With my pregnancy progressing, shoes (for now, until the swelling kicks in) is one of the few things I have left that I can still buy and have fun with.

Vests, jackets, other open front-type tops are also preggo lady friendly, so I did upgrade my denim vest situation. I had been wearing one from Old Navy that was a pretty good deal. I  wasn't sure when I got the vest if I was going to get much wear out of this trend or how long I would like it, but it's turning out to be a favorite and more versatile pieces! SO! I bit the bullet and upgraded to this J.Crew denim vest. And I'm glad I did - love that it's a bit longer than my old one, a great wash that will work in the warmer months and cooler ones and the collar is the perfect size. I've already worn it a few times.

So, now I'm putting my old denim vest up on Poshmark for someone else to take for a test drive. :)  Isn't that the best way to determine if you should invest in something a little better is?

22 weeks along // getting sleepy

This past week I've been tired. More tired than the last few weeks, but not as tired as the first trimester, thank goodness.  I think it's the combination of getting bigger, starting to not sleep as well (not able to get comfortable) and yet, my daily life still remains... a busy job, chasing around a toddler and the crazy amount of to-dos around this house.

I think the only remedy here (since I'm only going to be getting better and my life isn't going to slow down) is to work on my night sleep.  I've been using a Snoogle to help me sleep on my side more comfortably (would prefer to sleep on my back).  My nightmares come and go,  but I don't think there is anything I can do about those.  What are some things that helped you sleep better at night when you were pregnant?

And in other news, I'm wearing pants, so you know they are held together by my rubber band trick these days.  I'm going to make my "normal" clothes last as long as possible.  Though I am sporting my favorite maternity tank for length coverage.
