Favorite Wears: How to Wear a Maxi Dress in the Winter

This new year, I vowed to keep pushing myself to think outside the box when it comes to getting dressed. And to continue to try new things on the constant quest to figure out what my style is (or rather, what it's a mix of).  One thing that I always struggle with is how to wear a maxi dress in the winter.  But this long-sleeve one has made it a lot easier to test out.

To winterize this dress, I layered bright tights that blend right into my wedge booties.  The tights are really to keep warm, and I like a wedge for a long maxi like this to provide a bit of extra height and keep the dress for piling up.  Upon walking or other dress movements, the tights lend a pop of color!

Mirror the long length of the dress when you add a necklace.  This long Y-necklace keeps the eye going up and down, despite the horizontal stripes on the top part of the dress.  And final tip, wear a shorter jacket with this type of dress.  You don't want to wear a jacket that goes below your hips, as it'll just cut you and make you look wider.  A jacket (coat or even a cardigan) that hits at hip or above (even crop!) is perfect with the maxi!
