Favorite Wears: Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone

A few weeks ago, a few colleagues and I were at a J.Crew event on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City.   It's always fun to go shopping with a bunch of girls, and as we were walking in, one of my co-workers mentioned she wanted to buy something different than she normally would.  Allison has a great classic, clean and feminine style - and she is adorable.  So, as we walked around the store, I was invited to make suggestions - which, that was way more fun for me than shopping for myself!

At first I picked out these pants in a more neutral color. While the fabric and cut (more of an athletic style) is slightly different than Allison typically wears, it wasn't different enough. So she tried on these bright ones and we all loved them on her. The cool thing about these bold pants, is she already has tons of great classic and neutral pieces to wear with them.

I actually find it easier to style a piece that is bold or vivid verse something simple.  It's easier to compile a more eye-catching outfit with one bold item paired with simple, neutral and classic pieces that we all own.  Allison did just that - coming to work the next week, looking awesome and feeling confident in her new pants, styled with a classic stripe tee, layered with a denim jacket and her favorite wedges.  I particularly love the blush clutch that she chose, as they're a nice coordinating hue to the bright pants.

Do you depend on a friend or shopping companion to help you step outside your comfort zone from time to time?

{Denim Jacket - similar, Stripe Top - similar, Pants (on sale!),  Clutch - shop bluch/pink clutches here, Wedges - old Ann Taylor, Sunglasses}

Thanks to Allison for letting me help her shop and show her off here! :)
