Halloween 2017!

We had a cold Halloween this year - Brrrr! But thankfully, both kid's costumes were adaptable. And actually, Liam's would have been way too warm if it were a warmer day.

The drama that is deciding on (and maintaining that decision) Halloween costumes when you're almost 4 and 6 is real. Liam had all sorts of ideas, different each day, but then decided to be a ghost.  After finding a ghost costume DIY idea that didn't go over his head (ya know, for better class party/costume wearing), we ordered the white fleece fabric, white beanie, fabric glue and back fabric for the ghost face.  Upon receiving the materials, we showed Liam the inspiration piece - and he was mad. No more ghost - way too baby-ish he said.

So, after a week thinking, we came up with the mummy idea this past weekend because we could use most of the same materials we already had for the ghost. We took the white fleece fabric and cut into strips, using safety pins to adhere to the top of the pants/shirt and then using fabric glue to adhere the fleece strips to each other (as to not damage the clothes), wrapping around the base-clothing.  I used safety pins to keep the mummy layer fixed to the clothing.  We then added some strips of canvas (a new purchase) to let hang and switch up the coloring.

Thus, the super warm mummy outfit - it's sweat pants and a shirt layered in all those fleece strips!

And Nora - she actually was consistently Peppa Pig that last month despite NEVER watching that show!  I was so surprised that was her decision (and even tried to talk her out of it) - she must have been influenced at school or something. haha!  But I admire her tenacity.

We had a fun night trick-or-treating with neighbors/friends! The boys (Liam and his friend, Paul) were sprinting ahead, racing from one house to the next.   It was good, keeping up with them all kept us a bit warmer.

And at work, two co-workers and I (who all happened to have the same/similar pink bomber jacket) decided to semi-be the Pink Ladies from Grease. ;)

Hope you all had a great Halloween!

Happy Stranger Things, Season 2 Debut Day!

I was cleaning out and reorganizing Nora's closet the other day, and going through some of our dear friend's and my goddaughter's hand-me-downs to Nora when I stumbled upon this dress.  Right away, I show Greg, and joked Nora should be Eleven for Halloween.

Obviously knowing Nora would never go for that (she's already firmly told me she is dressing up as Peppa Pig, plus has no idea who Eleven is, I decided to celebrate TODAY, the Netflix debut of Stranger Things, season two, with a little Nora nod to Eleven (I mean, she already has the right hair).

She thought it was fun to dress up, but mostly she was super excited to get a waffle. I just wish I had Eggo Waffles (at least the box!) on hand to really bring this look to life. ;)  Now, who is spending all weekend binge watching Stranger Things??

In case you need a last minute Halloween costumer, here is how to achieve Nora's Eleven look:

My Pumpkins at the Pumpkin Patch!

What else do you do in October, but head to the pumpkin patch?!?! (Well, you go apple picking, too - but with that done... on to the next!) Every year we celebrate fall - almost every weekend - with lots of outdoor activities.  The kids love it, and I love being outside, watching them have fun.  Fall is always my favorite time of year, never fails!

So, despite tons of rain the night before, last Sunday we headed to the Pumpkin Patch with my parents. We pulled on our Hunter Boots, and had a blast. The best thing about going after not optimal weather is that it's not as crowded. ;)

We love Johnson Farms because of all the other activities.  We literally could have been there ALL day.  So, besides picking out pumpkins (which this year they were REALLY into that!), we visited the pigs (and saw baby piglets eating - that was very educational for the kids, haha), played in sand, ate donuts, took a hay ride, climbed in play tubes, jumped, ran through mazes, danced to the band, etc etc etc.  Sharing photos from our morning below!

But first - here are some outfit details:

Favorite Wears: Metallic Skirt

Cream mixed with a bit of metallic and whole lotta pop! I love playing with neutrals, aiming to make them not look boring - and the perfect addition is a little metallic lux and a bright pop of something. In my case, the shoes... all about the shoes.

And my go-to is layering on dainty jewelry that comes with a bold design.  My long-time fav jewelry designer is Janesko.  Her newest line is inspired by architecture.  The earrings I'm wearing are level hoops and my lariat necklace has an actual plumb bob, or plummet, which is a weight with a point used for vertical reference.  I think it's so cool how Jennifer (owner and designer of Janesko) uses unexpected inspirations to bring to live jewelry that can be worn for any occasion.
