Your 2018 Fall/Winter Denim Guide!

Come colder weather, denim is a great option to help keep warm. I've only recently become a more avid jeans wearer because of all the different options, cuts, washes and styles that now exist. Denim is a staple I now feel like I can have a little more fun with, than just a basic.

Now into the fall season, I am on the look out for new jeans to spice up my fall and winter looks. I visited Simply Be, because they have a lot of different styles, and you can figure out what flatters you the most.  You want to also make sure you get the most out of a new pair of jeans, so making sure your new jeans will fit in with your existing wardrobe (i.e. if you have a lot of looser tunic style tops, skinny jeans make for a good bottom to fit underneath that style of top vs. if you have more fitted, cropped tops, try pairing with wide leg and high-waisted pairs of denim).

For me personally, I typically like a more fitted jeans, as I like to wear looser and layered tops. I'm sharing some of my own personal style wearing different jeans, as well as some overall trends I'm excited about:

Back to the 90s
The tapered and straight-leg jeans are also inspired by 1990s fashion. They look especially good with the big blouses that finish mid-thigh. But also that 90s wash - a more acid wash (I'm wearing a toned down version above).

Flared and bootcut jeans
If you like bootcut and flared jeans, you have plenty of choices and these cuts work really well for straight and curvy women alike!  I'm especially excited to try this style (a departure from the skinny cut I've been wearing the last decade). The right pair of bootcut jeans can easily be dressed up by wearing them with a crisp tailored blouse and even a blazer (for work or not). But they look just as good when you worn in a casual way, like with t-shirt and jacket.

The 100% denim look
The all-denim look never completely goes out of fashion.  So, it comes as no surprise to see denim jackets, tops and skirts still all the rage and popping up everywhere. Just make sure your denim pieces have different shades to allow for contrast (like my lighter denim top with darker jeans).

Button detailing
This year, quite a few designers have incorporated a few extra details into their designs. For example, buttons on the fly zipper or two or three buttons at the waist. Once again, high-waisted jeans are set to be very popular. A lot of these feature a deep waistband, which is ideal for this multi-button trend.

Colored denim
Looking at the looks from fashion week this year, it is obvious that we can expect to see more colored denim being made available this year.  I personally love a burgundy jean!

Two-Toned Denim
Maybe my favorite denim trend is the two-toned denim coloring. This is a great way to ease away from your traditional denim and try something subtly new!
