A look into KCFW: Saturday afternoon

This past weekend was Kansas City Fashion Week at the beautiful Union Station on a particularly beautiful day!  I hit up the Saturday afternoon portion of the show-packed weekend and walked away with two favorites that could not be any different.  The first had me ready to escape to a tropical island and the next ready for Fall. Both collections grabbed my attention for the craftsmanship, unique designs and styles and beautiful styling.

L.O.D. Designs was the collection that exuded sunshine and ocean breezes.  The bright yellow mixed with palm print brought me to that summer happy place (you know, the one in the sun, on a sandy beach, a good book in hand and no where to be with the ocean as your backdrop... that one).  But this wasn't just any island wear collection, these pieces were structured where needed and flowy when not, creating pieces you could wear in-land (like, oh, say, Kansas City?!).  Oh, and I loved the feather and gold styling throughout, so much so I am contemplating a DIY project for a similar bracelet like the one below...

Spring not even here, and I was getting giddy for Fall watching the collection by Andrea Marie Long Designs.  Her use of plaid (especially mixing plaids) were the perfect build from 2013's plaid comeback.  I really felt like this show could have been called Sherlock Holmes Chic or something.  Below are just a few of my favorite pieces she sent down the runway... the cape, gold accents, pops of fur, plaid on plaid.  It was good, really good:

Prior to the show, some of my fellow blogger friends and I got to put our media pass to good use and go backstage for a preview.  The event was hosted by Ulta, which sent us home with an awesome swag bag packed to the brim with goodies.  I can't wait to try and dish on my favorites!

What a great event!  Thanks KCFW & Ulta for making it the best yet.

Favorite Wears: Kimono for Kansas City event with Rebecca Minkoff

Last night I attended the HallsKC event, which hosted Rebecca Minkoff and local designer and Sporting KC soccer star, Aurelien Collin of AC78. The place was not just filled with each designer's new pieces for fall, but cocktails (and the most delicious mocktail), little purse cookies, soccer players and cameras.  I had a fun time catching up and hanging out with my fellow Kansas City blogger friends, and after getting started the night before on this to-do list, I was happy to have a girls night out around fashion.  I actually didn't buy anything, but I'm thinking about a few items... and for real when I say this, I actually was loving a few of AC78's men's pieces, that I'd totally wear myself!

Here are a few pics and pieces from the night, including what I wore!

{Outfit Details: Kimono - ASOS (love this one for fall and this one for all year); Old Stripe Shirt (similar); Maternity Maxi Skirt; Boots; Bag; Lips; Triangle Necklace - Hello Cheeseburger (similar style); Circle Pendant Necklace - Washington D.C. artist}

{That's Rebecca Minkoff, you guys! She's so sweet in person and looks fantastic.  Loved her leather skirt.  And as mentioned, my KC blogger friends... Lisa, Erin, Sandy and new friend, Carrie}

{Aurelien Collin and some of his pieces from his line, AC78.  Love this layered look for a dude and want that long, sweater cardigan with a half hood for my husband so that I can steal it for myself.}

{THESE little drinks were DELISH! }

{Fall goodies... loving Rebecca Minkoff's leopard bag, those leopard loafers & teal quilted bag, larger version}

Thank you Erin & Sandy for taking my outfit pics!

KCFW Fall 2013 Review

We're really overdue for Spring around here. I have almost forgot that it's March, feels more like January. But I was happy to revel in layers and dream of warmer clothing a bit longer while watching KCFW designers kick some butt.

Here are a few of my favorite looks from the Fashion Show I attended a couple weeks ago.  All photos by the crazy talented, Kris on InkStudios.  The first photo from Pink Sheep Heiress.

My favorite House of Cochon piece was this fringe necklace -- and the hair! Loved the big hair.

 Another talented jewelry designer, but very different from the last. I absolutely loved this all white styling to allow for the gold jewelry to pop and act as the art it is! Tracy McClain of Trajet makes pieces that transition to full torso jewelry to necklace.

 Emma Lammers owned the runway with super skilled structured pieces, and styled her models with SE14 custom made bags, like this amazing oversized clutch.

 Christian Michael (designer in right side photo and brand name) was an amazing closure with a fully thought through runway show experience - from the props (the gun is not loaded) to the details of the outfits. I only wish my husband dressed a little like this (sans gun).

 And of course, no KCFW is complete without a group of pretty cool blogging chics to attend with! {Sarah, Erin, Sandy, LaShonda, Kat, Emily & Elizabeth}

You can see what I wore to the event here. ;)

KC Fashion Week Designer Spotlight on SuShe

Ok, for real. One of my absolute favorite looks was in SuShe's collection showed last Friday night that I'm still daydreaming about it today. SuShe by J.Tracey is a custom made clothing designer and completely unique.  She is inspired by classics with a fun twist, vintage, but bohemian and haute couture. Work with designer Juantiesha Christian, to get a one of a kind outfit.

Just let the velvety, bright mustard, dreamy dress do the talking...

I just need to figure out how to get my hands on this amazing piece of art (yes, fashion is art).

I also was drawn to her playful side - a shift dress with a twist: spiked shoulders and a fun pattern!  The little black dress totally unique - sheer sleeves and a cut out middle add the perfect twist of fun to this classic.  There's that burgundy again (Fall's hot color still going strong for Spring), but in a metallic accordion pleat skirt!

Aren't you just drooling?  How amazing are her designs? I want to watch this Juantiesha work...

Thank you to the talented Kris Hanke & Daniel Welch for some of the photos in this post!

Polka Dots & Lace

{Polka Dot Blouse, Lace Skirt - Marshalls, Necklace - J.Crew, Flats - London Rebel/ASOS, Sunnies - Jessica Simpson/Marshalls}

Putting my steal of a deal polka dot blouse to work by mixing it with lace.  Tried to be a little classy for an event I went to last Thursday evening.  Halls of KC had an event, It's A Girl Thing (and It's a Guy Thing) going on, and I went!  I had a great time oogling at all the designer clothes and hanging out with other KC bloggers.

Some pretties I saw...

{Stuart Weitzman Flats & LK Bennet/Kate Middleton heels}

{Kate Spade}

And the KC Bloggers who also attended:

It was a great event! Check out Halls KC for more fun events, great fashion, jewelry, cosmetics {even a facial spa}, and shoes!

Dress for Less: Bright Stripe Dresses

The trend of the bright striped dresses was set forth by Marc by Marc Jacobs last spring.  The amazing brightly colored gumball dress made me drool instantly.  But the $628 price tag did not.

This week I found alternatives, for way less of an investment.  And I instantly had to share with you all!

Both the Ruche options are under $45!  Talk about a steal.  Now you can have your bright stripes, and wear them too.
