Add one more Social Network to your list

{My background via Ampersand Studio}

Just when you thought you were comfortable with your oh 3-5 social media networks... an old one is made new again and on January 1st will be open to the public at large.

Myspace (formerly stylized as MySpace), owned by ad network firm, Specific Media and the king of "Bringing Sexy Back," Justin Timberlake have been hard at work completely changing the look and feel in a brand new, never been seen-innovative way...and you're going to want to know about it.

Don't just take my word for it.  Watch this video and tell me your not intrigued.

Some of my favorite features of the revamped MySpace:

- The new platform was built with two important things upfront.  Two areas of challenge that Facebook has dealt with lately: "Privacy by Design" and optimized for mobile/tablet first and foremost.

- The site functionality in itself is innovative, Myspace will be the first large scaled website to be built with a sideways scrolling functionality. This is a tablet feature carrying over to the web.

- The network will be organized by "spaces." For instance, the equivalent to Facebook's News Feed is the "Stream" space.  Within the "Mixes" space, you'll be able to create custom playlists.

- The overall feel of the new Myspace is very clean and sophisticated.  As you start populating your connections and interests, the stream has a Pinterest feel, populated with more images in different sizes based on how relevant they are to your interests.  One tour around the space, you will see that this is not your grandma's social network.

- Musicians and artists have had access for the last couple months to populate their pages before other users started joining.  Music is the one constant from the old MySpace to the new. Staying true to their music roots through this redesign is what will set them apart from anything else out there.

- Brands will also have their space. But this is currently not their priority and Myspace plans to keep their integration inline with their look and feel for the benefit of the user.

Myspace launched in Beta today (December 6), so you should start hearing more about the network user experience from people like me. If you are also one with an early invite, find me here! I'd love to connect with you in a brand new space.
